In the early 1800’s, Johann Goethe stated: “If I accept you for who you are, I will make you worse, however, if I treat you as though what you are capable of becoming, I will help you become that.” Michael’s primary mission at SGC is to help our advisors, staff & clients to become what they are capable of becoming; personally, socially & economically.
Michael was born in Hayward, California where he graduated from Moreau Catholic High School. After high school, he attended Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, California where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Theology and Philosophy. He completed his post graduate work at Saint Mary’s in Secondary Education.
Prior to joining the firm, Michael was a member of The Christian Brothers religious teaching order for six years and spent nine years as an administrator, teacher and football / baseball / track coach at Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, California.
In 1990, Michael joined SGC Financial and Insurance Services as a registered representative. He obtained his California Life and Health Insurance license and successfully completed five NASD / FINRA registrations including his Series 24, Registered Principal Designation.
Michael was named SGC’s President in 2000 and CEO in 2006. As CEO for SGC, Michael most enjoys working with advisors, staff & clients who are committed to personal, social & economic growth. He wants SGC to be known not only for its expertise in assisting clients with financial goal achievement, but for how it gives back to the community. Personally, Michael is passionate about donating time and money to the Jesuit Association, San Francisco AIDS Organization, Junior Achievement, the YMCA and numerous educational foundations.
Michael is Past President of National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Silicon Valley, Past President of The Agency Management Resource Group, charter member of Securian’s Advisory Board, and a long time member of The General Agents & Managers Association. In 2012 he was elected by his peers to serve on Securian’s National Advisory Board where he currently serves as an executive board member. Additionally, he volunteers as an executive board member for The Peninsula Estate Planning Council.
Michael and his wife Linda have been married since 1990 and make their home in San Jose, California. When not in the office, Michael & Linda can be found experimenting with a new recipe, cheering for the Giants & 49’ers, crossing off a travel destination from their “bucket-list” or volunteering for causes big & small.
